A levels 2007

Life battles don't always go to the stronger and faster man. But sooner or later the man who wins is the man who thinks he can.

This is a Life Battle. Believe it! Take a deep breathe, don't panic. Stay calm, recall all your facts, formulae, principles and laws. Don't forget them, cause it never fails to result in my downfall.

Good luck. 30 Oct 2007 till 20 Nov 2007, its my fight.

And i'm gonna win it.

Farewell Concert + Star Awards 2007

Today was the last official day of school where we are to report by 7.25. Sure its not the last day which we wear the uniform, but there were a lot of sentimental feelings that go with this special day. Anyhow that's not the bulk of this post. The sentimental part can come later, hopefully with some photos...

The first part of the day was of course morning assembly at the Temasek Square. (Actually its interesting to note that most JC has many venues to names that are amusing or unique such as photocopying shop Zap! and the squash courts are called Leadership Centre, though most special TJ venues are under utilised like Innospace) Most year 2s arent paying attention, not that anyone will care on the last day of school.

Next we went for a talk by Mrs Loke and Mr Tong. Mrs Loke touched on the core values of TJ and the compass points etc etc. I wouldn't be surprised if most people weren't listening. But i noted 2 points from her talk. Firstly she came into TJ at the same time as my batch. So we're her first graduating batch fresh with her. Secondly, i like her most emphasized quote. This quote was by Helen Keller, whom was my most similar character during my secondary school personality report. The quote goes "I am only one, but i am still one. I cannot do everything, but i can still do something. I will not refuse to do that something i can do". I graduated from Xinmin strongly believing in this quote. (then again i have quite forgotten it until Mrs Loke mentioned it today, oops)

Mr Tong's talk was more enriching, i didnt know some of the examination procedure he mentioned such as what if floods occur and we cannot proceed to TJ for examination. The one quote i will surely remember from TJ was given by Mr Tong during 1st Orientation 2006. He was giving a quiz to gain points for the orientation competition and so ask us "which 10 two-lettered words are the most important words in English?" Guess?

If it is to be, it is up to me.

I kinda like this quote. Then he showed us this video http://www.212movie.com/ If you're taking an examination or something, you should watch it. Its quite nice.

Mrs Loke giving her last cohort meeting speech

Next was Civics lesson. Mr Lim KK gave us some encouragement and gifts for those who improved a lot. Then Mrs Beetsma came in to give us our sample SGC and results slip. I shall refrain from commenting on my results though. Then Mrs Beetsma said she'll treat us to a drink. She does that often especially if we did well for examinations as a class (which is like, everytime?)

When we reached the canteen, we saw a black bus driving into the canteen. Here's the fun part. It says Star Search 2007 on the bus, but later Sue Chee told me its Star Awards. Oops, i didnt know any celebrity, but not that i cared. The interesting fact is how TJCians reacted when they saw the bus. They went crazy, first girls, then the guys too, and the manager had to keep telling us to keep quiet and stop taking photos if not they'll have to leave immediately. Now thats some cocky attitude. Like what my friend said, when gals meet their idols, they go wild. Really wild. Its only natural for them to be like that, as much as i would like to declare TJ an institution of distinction but its human nature you know? Anyhow here are some photos.

Guess what? The door of the bus got stuck! They can't come out. TJCians looking at them as if they are in an enclosure...

Basically i couldnt take a shot of the celebrities' faces cause too many people were crowding near the bus. Look carefully at the last photo, when the bus driver opened the windows, TJCians actually put the camera INTO the bus to take some photos. Incredible, this thing call fan power. There was also one guy who sat on another guy's back in the midst of the chaos. I'm sure many people were late for class and the farewell concert.

Then was the farewell concert. It was cool. Not bad. Touching to see Mrs Tag sobbing away. Just don't know if its real or she's having a flu. The maths conditions stuff are cool too. Eg. we were placed under a common denominator (TJC), tutors were there to help us take absolute values of everything passion drive purpose, integrate knowledge and other stuff to get higher powers of them, and a lot of other crazy stuff. Chemistry department were funny too. Physics department mainly put quotes. GP department was quite funny too. Guess what my GP tutor wrote on his slide.

Bye bye.

Infer the author's tone and purpose from the above sentence (or something like that).

Quite funny.

Then there was this video of photos of what my batch did. It was quite nice, though i only appeared once. Not bad already though.

Then another funny part came in. The star awards 2007 people came to interrupt. I had a better idea of how things work in the media industry. First the emcee came in to ensure that we were enthu and spontaneous. She tested us and dared us to cheer loudly. We did the TJ cheer and she was quite impressed. But when the celebrities come in... lol, the volume was on a whole different level.

Soon after, the concert ended. And that's that. Back to mugging. And the emcee's last sentence was "ok thats all JC2s, erm, you guys are dismissed, you all can go study or something." LOL.

Core Values

Did i mention before that i may join the police force? My friends say that i have the moral values for it. I guess i do. The scholarship sure looks enticing, but then again its a dream too far away. I did some checks and research about the Singapore Police Force (SPF). Quite interesting.

Some forum says that its wise for pre-enlistees to know the 7 Core Values of Singapore Armed Forces. So i guess i'll try to remember it.

SAF 7 Core Values
Loyalty to country
Leadership
Discipline
Professionalism
Fighting spirit
Ethics
Care for soldiers
(Hidden Core Value: Just don't get caught)

SPF 4 Core Values
Courage
Loyalty
Integrity
Fairness

Enlisting

So one fine day, my classmates came bursting into the tutorial room blabbering about enlistment dates. Before i know what was happening, Edwin was saying "i help you check" and i "blurly" said ok. After 1 min of stunness, i knew my enlistment date. Later that day, i receive the enlistment letter from CMPB.

Yup. 11 Jan 2008 11.30am Basic Military Training Centre School 1.

Settle anything you want with me before then. Cause after that, i'm gonna become a man. And chances are, i'll be a lot harder to deal with than i am now.

I hope.

Valentine's Day

Recently i have been listening to this song. Its called Valentine's Day by Linkin Park. Most people should know it, eh? What interest me is the uncommon structure of the song. The "chorus" is at the back of the song. Its a really nice song with the sad tones placed out nicely.

My insides all turned to ash, So slow
And blew away as I collapsed, So cold
A black wind took them away, From sight
And now the darkness over day, that night

And the clouds above move closer
looking so dissatisfied
but the heartless wind kept blowing, blowing

I used to be my own protection, But not now
Cause my path had lost direction, Somehow
A black wind took you away, From sight
And now the darkness over day, That night

And the clouds above more closer
looking so dissatisfied
and the ground below grew colder
as they put you down inside
but the heartless wind kept blowing, blowing

So now you're gone
And I was wrongI never knew what it was like
To be alone

On a Valentine's Day
On a Valentine's Day
On a Valentine's Day
On a Valentine's Day
On a Valentine's Day
(I used to be my own protection)
On a Valentine's Day,(But not now)

On a Valentine's Day
(Cause my mind has lost direction)
On a Valentine's Day,(somehow)
On a Valentine's Day(I used to be my own protection)
On a Valentine's Day,(But not now)
On a Valentine's Day(Cause my mind has lost direction)
On a Valentine's Day,(somehow)

Geylang Trip

Zuli's blog says its the month of Ramadhan. 3 years ago, I went to Geylang during this period of time with her, Atikah, Edwin, Danny, Liyue, Benjamin and his bro, Norani and her bro, and i think a few more. It was quite fun then. That was 2004.

Anyhow its celebrated by the Muslims who are mainly Malays. They stop eating and drinking from a certain time in the morning and are allowed to eat only sometime after 7pm. Tough eh? But this is only the most common side seen by other Singaporeans. The truth is this is the month that they cleanse their soul and they abstain from other stuff such as sex, smoking and more (said so from Zuli's blog, correct me if i'm wrong). Its been a long time since i met Zuli and Atikah, so we decided that we should go again this year. Thus we went to Geylang to FEAST! Lol. Sounds so wrong. But its true, Geylang is quite the food paradise. There are other things to shop too.

Its kind of weird, how Edwin and I are the only Chinese in the area. But its an eye opener and an experience that occurs only in a period of the year. I had a great time with my Malay friends too.

In conclusion, its not bad, quite fun, should go again next year.

Mooncake Festival

Zhong Qiu Jie <<中秋节>> is known in English as Mooncake Festival, or more commonly Mid Autumn Festival, is on the 15 August of the Lunar Calender. And boy, its been 10 years since i last celebrated it. I decided to go along since my friends mentioned they all had fun the previous years.

We went to Punggol Park, loaded with lanturns (including one Ultraman one), more than 10 packets of candles and loads of matches. Quite a few people went, though more would have been fun. I called, but most people arent free.

The girls were mainly chit chatting, and the guys were mainly creating rockets using the materials we have. Amidst the explosions and whistling of sparkles around us, we kept failing to create our own rockets. Meanwhile, i was creating words with candles. It was pretty fun, and the current wallpaper i'm using on my blog now is made by me. Cool huh? Too bad the night mode of my camera isnt of good quality. Most photos came out dark. But still, these arent too bad.

This is supposed to be WuShu's WU in chinese. But the cluttered flames made it hard to see.

I created another heart at first. But it was kinda a failure. The 2 contrast tones are due to one taken by my phone and another by a camera.

I got quite bored at one point and didnt know what to make. It didnt really occur in my mind, but other words are quite complicated. Haha i'm still quite innocent.

A level Prelims 2007

Today is the 4th day of the prelims (but there's no paper today). For the first to third day, my combination had all 5 subjects. Monday was GP and Physics P3, Tuesday was Maths P1 and Econs P2, Wednesday was Chemistry P3. Its so tiring.

It was all ok, until Chemistry.

But you know, if i'm ever going to be a teacher, i'll make sure i propose that no tutors are allowed to make noise during the examination. Its annoying and distracting, seriously. If i don't get at least a B for my chemistry, i think someone may die, and its not gonna be me. Sheesh, seriously, i thought tutors should be educators with some EQ. But apparently that's a generalisation.

6 more papers to go.

Teacher's Day

Yesterday was Teacher's Day. Thus 31st August was the school celebration for it. 31st August is also the Graduated Friends Reunion Day. Last year it was more of Teacher's Day for me. But frankly this year, i looked forward to seeing my friends more.

I didn't go to college, not really interested. It was optional anyways. At 9.45, i reached Xinmin. As i approached the gate, i saw a Raffles girl cat walking towards my direction. It was so distinctively Liyue. I laughed all the way until i reached the gate. Naturally she hit me when i mentioned about that to her. Coincidentally, i met Ed and her so we went to see the teachers together. The guards say "canteen only". My friends were like whispering to me "really ah?" and i said "of course we chiong up lah". So we went to the staff room and noticed that the door was ajar. We took this opportunity and sneaked inside. The science HOD asked us who let us in, but when we didnt answer that question, she just let it pass. But apparently we arent the only ones who attacked the staff room. We saw Mr Singh, Mr Ho, Mrs Teo, Ms Yeo, Mr Pah, Mdm Chua, Ms Pan, Mdm Tian, Ms Kuck, Mr Chan, Ms Abey, Mdm Hanifah and Ms Tee but unfortunately, we didnt talk much to them. It's really a pity. I remember last year i interrupted Mdm Tian's lesson and she gladly spoke to me until the bell rang for break.

The performance was, well, not too enticing as usual. Half way through i couldnt take it anymore and left the hall. But seeing the SL trainee kids do hard labour work with no grumbling warmed my heart a little. Afterall i was once a Junior Prefect too. Anyhow, i met Ching Yee, Han Kee, Jia Jian, Danny, Xiang Yeow, Eric, Joanne, Atikah, Noraini, Hong You, Jasper, Cassandra, Sandra, Stephanie, Hui Shan, Jason, Benjamin, Desmond, Elgin, Sabrina, Aishah, Wan Shi Ting, Yinning, some of my TJ juniors whom i dont miss at all (i see them often in college), and maybe more but i cant remember. I had a good chat with Ching Yee, Eric, Jason and Atikah, but seriously it wasnt enough. I also miss Zuli and Leon a lot. Hope i get to see you guys again soon. I also didnt get to see my other juniors like Khee Ern, Shalina, Zu Yao, Shi Ting, ya and many more. Oh well...

Then yesterday, 1st of September, halfway through studying, i smsed Mrs Melissa Tan, arguably my favourite teacher, who helped me get an A1 for O lvls from a F9 (E8 after moderation) for prelims. She thank me for remembering her, then i said "how can i forget you? i heard that you made me a legend from last year's class 402". Then she said this "Yes your performance was a big motivation for all of us. Nothing seems impossible as its still about diligence and perseverance." Haha... I guess diligence and perseverance was half of the key to my success. The other half was Mrs Tan. Last year when i went back to see her, she was with Mrs Song too. Then when 3 of us were walking back to the Staff Room, Mrs Song ask me "so can you tell me your secret?" I pointed to Mrs Tan and said "ask her". Mrs Tan said "how i know." but then its really the truth.

I sms other teachers and my JC tutors too, mainly those who i have their numbers and i am quite close to. Its heartening to see their replies (though some didnt reply).

Ah i just remembered that i didnt take any photos with my friends. Its a pity. But at least i made a promise with Atikah to have a gathering with some friends after prelims. And the final good luck handshake with Jason was warm too. Thus, happy teacher's day to all my beloved teachers and tutors. Really appreciate your efforts. If not for all your pushing and trusting, I wouldnt have gone so far. And to all my friends taking the prelims, lets Jia You together and chiong this last lap at maximum velocity. After the As, we can have a good rest and gathering.

Till then, all the best.

The Strongest Disciple

Well lately i'm into this manga called The Strongest Disciple. Its really old and i'm surprised that an anime was made for it.

The Strongest Disciple is about this High School year 1 student who always got bullied. Tired of escaping reality, he joined a training school (sort of) which looked old and crappy. However, the reality is that 6 dangerously strong masters of martial arts live there and finally accepted him as a student. One of the masters' granddaughter also live there. And she sure has big assets. Lol. This guy eventually meets his destiny to fight all the disciples in the world, all desiring the place of The Strongest Disciple.

This manga is full of action and comedy. Maybe i like it cause i prefer action pack manga like Naruto and Bleach. You can read The Strongest Disciple here. http://dm.99770.com/Comic/1080/1080.htm

Tagging thing

Hong You just informed me that Desmond tagged me. I went "what the hell?" and went to check out his blog. Halfway through looking at his blog, i realised that he might have tagged my tagboard and sure enough, he did.

Too bad des, just when i was about to write out the post, i find this tagging thing strangely familar. Sure enough, i did something like that already. It was in my post "10 random facts about me". Just scroll down. Looks like i shouldnt need to do it again. But for the sake that des actually remembered me while blogging (i'm surprised), i will rewrite out that post and maybe do a little change to it. (nonetheless, he remembered me when he was finding people to sabo, thanks ah)

The tag goes something like this:

Rules of the game: each player of this game starts off with ten weird things or habits or little known facts about yourself. people who get tagged must write in a blog of their own ten weird things or habits or little known facts as well as state this rule clearly. at the end you must choose six people to be tagged and list their names. no tagbacks! :D

However i have no intention to tag 6 other people cause i simply have no one to tag. People who used to blog all dont blog anymore.

1) My msn list is not grouped by how people associates with me but by how close they are with me ie. close friend, normal friend, enemies etc
2) I have a private blog.
3) I have a collection of other people's display pictures for MSN Messenger. I stole it using a software without them knowing. Now did that scare you? Haha.
4) The Doraemon clay model which my primary school best friend gave to me in Pri2 is still on my desk, right in front of me.
5) I had chicken pox when i was 1 month old.
6) I can't do cartwheel even though i have been learning wushu for about a year.
7) My favourite hobby is sleeping.
8) I go suntanning a lot but i hate to suntan. I like the colour, but its such a waste of time.
9) I like to cam whore, but i don't cam whore.
10) It took me 30 mins to think of this 10 stupid facts.

Alright. I changed 2 of the facts from my previous posts. So nobody should accuse me of not putting in effort.

思念是一种病

This song is really nice. I have been listening to this song ONLY for the past 1 week.

sang by 张震岳

The rough translation is

When you are at the other side of the world
My walk down the lonely road seems to never end

There's a lot of things we don't get to do in time in this lifetime
when we realise we lost
the most important things
its already too late
why do we have to do something wrong
before we realise its our own fault
they say this is life...
trying to understand trying to hold back our tears
but we will still feel those feelings that we should

i won't ask for the time to stop
i know that escaping won't solve anything
just that during this time especially in the night
i still recall those memories
i think my pining is a illness
and it takes too long to heal

When you are at the other side of the world
My walk down the lonely road seems to never end
I always feel your breathe right behind me
But i never felt your breathe in my heart

keep
forgetting that the people around me needs love and care
excuses always widen gaps
unknowingly nothing is left
we always grumble that things aren't going our way
but we refuse to look back at ourselves
and think what kind of stupid things we've done

maybe god is giving me a test
maybe this wound just need more time to heal
just that when i think of all this
all the people and things are leaving me
and we're all going to separate
and become memories

oh pining is a kind of illness
oh pining is a kind of illness

how long has it been since i said i love you
how long has it been since you hug someone you love
when this world isn't so good anymore
only love can make it better
i believe everything can be done in time
don't care about all the distractions
don't let the unhappiness stop you
i'm just afraid that you won't say or you won't do
don't let regrets stop you cause everything's still possible

Tarot Card

You are The Magician

Skill, wisdom, adaptation. Craft, cunning, depending on dignity.

Eleoquent and charismatic both verbally and in writing,
you are clever, witty, inventive and persuasive.

The Magician is the male power of creation, creation by willpower and desire. In that ancient sense, it is the ability to make things so just by speaking them aloud. Reflecting this is the fact that the Magician is represented by Mercury. He represents the gift of tongues, a smooth talker, a salesman. Also clever with the slight of hand and a medicine man - either a real doctor or someone trying to sell you snake oil.

What Tarot Card are You?

Punkd1

Today Mr Tan showed us a local movie. The title of the movie is The Letter and you can watch it here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Du4JkpR6iNg but be warned its gay-themed. Its not really nice, not a multibillion production in that aspect and not played by fantastic actors. But its a true story they say, how true i wonder.

BUT all this is besides the point. The 2 songs that was played in the movie were my concerns. Its really very nice. Written by Kevin Fok, a Singaporean and sang by Punkd1 (not sure?), the 2 pieces are called It's You and Beautiful. It really took me a long time to find these songs but you can download them here for free http://www.purevolume.com/punkd1 .

Beautiful

I dont know
If Im the one for you in this life
I cant help
Hearing my voice calling your name
Cuz when I
Trying so hard not to look in your eyes
Maybe I
Have fallen in love with you

Well tonight
Maybe this time I can hear your breathe
Its alive
To see you smile with those tears in your eyes
They may say
That you're just a girl in this spinning world
In my heart
You're like the world to me

Touch my hand; feel my heart
Hold me close and You'll find me
You'll find me

I cant so describe
How I feeling deep inside
So much more than I can say
With your touch it feels so right

Oh my, you're so near
All the time in this place
For I know in my heart
I'll never let you go
In this lifetime
Do you know why oh baby
Cus youre just so beautiful to me

It's You

Wake up every morning
And find you by my side
There's no one in this world
Like you Jesus
Who can touch a heart like mine

Suddenly it's over
All the cries that's In my heart
It all seems B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L
All consuming by your grace

I may not sing as well as Clay or Ruben
I may not be the cutest guy
I may not look like Leonardo Dicaprio
But I do know one thing ..

It's you who make me stronger
I need you more than ever
You're the reason why I'm singing for you
It's you who create the wonders
In all my days of struggles
It's your love that surrounds my whole world

Sometimes I cry when I'm lonely
When it all just seems so real
But there's one thing that I can't deny
Is your love that's in my life

Sports Carnival 2007

This year's Sports Carnival for Wushu was more fruitful than last year, mainly being last year i did not participate but this year i did. Not much, but at least i watched all the matches.

First up was the dodgeball. Even though i got Chen Shao in team 2 and i joined team 1 myself (the teams are made up of year 1s entirely), both teams still lost. Better yet, the 2 of us got out in an instant. We lost to swimming team and table tennis. It was quite bad but then we used the rest of the time to play the sparring balloon thing which was really fun.

Then 2nd match was floorball in which team 1 lost to table tennis again. Kinda flustered, really. But team 2 won some PDP first, can't remember which, then netball, then basketball, then hockey, and finally won table tennis in the finals! It was a great job well done. But because of this we missed the chance to play foosball. They should have waited for us, its not like we have no valid reason anyway.

Then we played tug of war. Team 1 lost to swimming, naturally. They're all twice our size. Then team 2 won basketball after having a walk over with squash. Then we played with swimming again and won and then lost to soccer and netball. So we got 3rd. It was not bad too. If Song Yan had been there, then soccer and netball should be no problem too. But netball was really strong, even my soccer friend who is a guy couldn't win.

I didn't join the class events caused i had stomach ache. It's a pity, then again i think most of the classmates are all ill or something and aren't in school. There's gonna be plenty of walkovers.

Hmm, this was done a long time ago. But it still awes me to no end. I never knew I was mature, trustworthy and confident. I thought everyone thinks of me as one big gossip mouth and spills everything out easily. People who think i'm mature as generally my junior which explains why. Confident? It's mostly my juniors again. People say i'm observant, well can't deny that much. Reflective, able, dependable, friendly (eyes buldge out), independent, organised (like what the?), sensible.

Nobody says i'm adaptable, cheerful (not surprised), clever, energetic, happy (no diff from cheerful), ingenious, nervous, proud (surprised), quiet(surprised), relaxed, religious, shy, silly, spontaneous, sympathetic (not surprised), tense, warm, witty.

Help me do this. So that i can laugh more at it. Lol.

Thank You For The Music

2 days ago, we had quite a cool Contact Time talk on marriage. The speaker was pretty interesting. However what really caught my eye was this 2 slides which he say are irrelevent to the topic. He claims that either he had forgotten to take them out or accidentally put them in, i forgot which. Anyhow, this 2 slides got my eyes cause i saw this few lyrics which were all too familiar.

The title of this song is "Thank You For The Music". Why do i remember it? Thats because its my primary school graduation song. Pretty cool huh. I just checked online and found that the lyrics my primary school gave was only part of it and some of the lines were changed. Anyways here goes.

Thank You For The Music

Chorus
Thank you for the music, the songs i'm singing.
Thanks for all the joy they're bringing.
Who can live without it
I ask in all honesty
What would life be?
Without a song or a dance what would life be
So I say thank you for the music
For giving it to me

Bridge
I've been so lucky
I have the chance to sing for you
I wanna shout it out to everyone
What a joy, what a chance, what a life!

Chorus x 1

Yup. So thanks, for the music, for giving it to me. If you think you've given me music, feel free to ask me to sing this song for you to hear.

Inter-School Wushu Competition 2007 (2)

The things i want to talk about in this post is the performance costumes. Yup i became a spying cam/peeping tom/perverted old man on days which i did not compete. Worse still most of the photos i took are guys. *Gasp!* Thats mainly because i didn't notice many girls with fanciful costumes. Oh people please forgive me, blame it on your costumes.

This is more of a white costume than a silver one. Some people looks really good in it, but some looks really disgusting. But dang, this colour is definitely one of my top 5 favourites.

This is more of a hydrid between magneta and pink. It also has silver linings on its sleeves and collar. Looks pretty cool actually.

This is a shade of orange costume. Not bad i say.

Yet another white costume. The previous guy looks better i think.

This guy is a very pro pro. He has nice costumes too. Bright yellow is one of my favourite colours. His is a hybrid between gold and yellow with black linings. One of my top 5 too.

Look at the array of costumes just before an event.

This girl is like the most pro female in the arena i saw in this season. She's looks really good with super long legs and she's also very graceful. Not that i'm interested in girls taller than me...

Just a sidetrack. Guess whose white long and slender legs is this?

The answer is Wai Yeow! He's the whitest guy in TJ Wushu. But man, those legs look like they can kill in one hit...

This is the previous guy who had a magneta-pink costume. A close up look.

I prefer this orange than the previous one. One of my top 5 favourite colours. In fact its my 2nd favourite.

This is the pro i mentioned just now. His costume looks like the kid before. But this is more pinkish i guess. Also has silver linings.

This costume is totally pink! But its not really hot pink. Seriously, this is at the top of my favourite list, though i don't think it will look good on me. I prefer costumes which don't have linings though some do look nice.

I rarely see southern fist costume which is light blue. Southern fist costumes are all sleeveless by the way. Not bad.

Another southern fist costume. A fine blue colour.

This is the group event costume this year. Pale yellow doesn't look bad but i don't look good in it. I usually wear a bright yellow colour.
Top 5 list
1) All Pink
2) All Orange
3) All Gold
4) All White
5) Gold with black linings

Thats all for my review and this draws the curtains to the Inter School Wushu Competition 2007. =)

Inter-School Wushu Competition 2007

Good Work everyone! Temasek JC ranks National 4th in A Division Boys. This was the first time i participated in the competition and it sure felt different from last year when i was merely a spectator.

Allow me to describe the events on each day.

Monday 9/4/07

Events: International Routine Nan Quan (Southern Fist) (A Boys)
Participants: Song Yan

The event was supposed to start at 6 but it was delayed till almost 7.30. A lot of us were tempted to go home but we stayed to cheer Song Yan on. Even pros can be nervous you know, though he was sleeping half the time while waiting for his event (from 11.30 to 7.30). His event had 6 people. At least one of them was from National Team (they train an insane number of times of 6 days a week i heard). There was at least 2 strong people excluding Song Yan but one of them was quite injuried. Song Yan did us proud by clinching Silver.

Total no. of points for A Boys: 5

Tuesday 10/4/07

Events: 4th Routine Broad Sword (A Boys), 4th Routine Straight Sword (A Girls)
Participants: Alwin, Li Min, Sze Ying

Alwin's event was at 3pm. There was about 2 or 3 strong opponents excluding himself. There sure was stress especially being the last person. The National Team member got a shockingly high score. The 2nd last person also did very well. Alwin did us proud by winning the 2nd last person by 0.02 points and clinched Silver. It was worth my time serving him water and grooming his appearance while waiting for his turn.

I didn't stay for Li Min and Sze Ying's events but i heard they did quite well too though not in the top 4. Well done people!

Total no. of points for A Boys: 10

Wednesday 11/4/07

Events: 4th Routine Cudgel (A Boys), 4th Routine Spear (A Boys)
Participants: myself, Song Yan, Alwin, Guan Wen

My event was at 3 with Song Yan. I was terrified, seriously. Even though i did sleep for a while. Song Yan went up first, scoring a rather high score. After seeing some of them did their routines, i felt more confident. How naive was i. I didn't screw up at all but i lost badly. I got 2nd last with another person. Though there was a few that was only 0.01 or 0.02 above my score. Coach says its because my basis of foundation is not there and there was a feeling of stiffness and fright in my actions. Oh well, the experience counts. But Song Yan did us proud by cliching Bronze even though he only practised for like, 1 week? Pros will be pros. Too bad i don't have his video since i was competing.

The next event was 4th Routine Spear. Guan Wen was too nervous, Coach says. But he didn't do too badly nonetheless. Alwin was pretty good. But this is where the competition turned ugly. For some unknown reason his 0.05 was deducted from his score. This had never happened before. Actually we do know what is happening. Another school's coach is trying to be funny apparently. Our teacher-in-charge was not very useful either for refusing to appeal. I wonder whats his reason? Was it sheer annoyance of trouble or fear of trouble? However there was 4 unbelievable strong opponents in this event and they all took the top 4 positions. So we decided to let it pass.

Total no. of points for A Boys: 13

Thursday 12/4/07

Events: First International Chang Quan (Long Fist) (A Boys), First International Straight Sword (A Girls), Second International Cudgel (A Boys)
Participants: Wai Yeow, Jia Yi, Chen Shao

First international Chang Quan and First international Straight Sword were both the 2nd events of the day. While testing grounds, Wai Yeow was still very relaxed and his moves were not at its best. Thank mother nature for adrenaline. Despite not pracitising very hard for this season, Wai Yeow did us proud by clinching a bronze. Actually i don't understand how he can still be so good even though he's so slack. 8 years of foundation sure wasn't for nothing.

Jia Yi's event had 6 people and she also did well by clinching a Bronze. She's also the only newbie getting a medal despite starting wushu only last year.

I didn't stay for the last event but i heard that the incident occurred again. This time he was deducted 0.2 points out of 10 (FYI, 0.2 is A LOT in wushu). Because of this his ranking fell from Silver to 4th placing. Geez.

Total no. of points for A Boys: 17

Friday 13/4/07

Events: Second International Routine Cudgel (A Boys), 4th Routine Straight Sword (A Boys), 4th Routine Cudgel (A Girls), 4th Routine Spear (A Girls)
Participants: Chen Shao, Wai Yeow, Guan Wen, Sze Ying, Li Min

I only stayed for Chen Shao's event. Actually didn't intend to stay for any but Coach caught me sleeping and wanted me to go help Chen Shao. Oh well. This time the corrupted judge wasn't at Chen Shao's court and he did us proud by cliching a Silver. I didn't take the video well cause the gold awardee keeps blocking me and i was squeezed at one corner already.

I heard that none of the other events got into top 4th but everyone did their best. So well done!

Total no. of points for A Boys: 21

At this point in time, we are ranked national 4th with Hwa Chong and National JC tailing closely behind us. Victoria was first, Meridian second and Anderson got third. National JC was no longer a threat as they do not have anymore events. The only event left was Group Event which any school can participate once, twice or none. Hwa Chong has one more event which it will win us as long as it can secure the third position. I think they had 17 points. So our main focus is to not let them get third. How does poisoning or tripping them over sound? Lol. The first and second places were already secured by Victoria and Meridian because they are too strong. Heard that Anderson's Group Event is also very strong so by right the first 3 places were already taken away.

Tuesday 17/4/07

Events: Group Event
Participants: Wai Yeow, Chen Shao, Song Yan, Alwin, Guan Wen, myself

Actually we were quite relaxed. We didn't try out our moves and at the very last minute we were still adding moves and clarifying things. With all due respect to other's school's hard work and perspiration, we did not deserve to win. While we were doing our routine, my mind was blank, really really blank. I can't remember doing anything at all. In fact, there were 3 moves in the routine that i rarely practised and they were all very difficult moves. I still don't understand how i did them out. Oh well. But we did great and cliched the 4th position. For some reasons, Anderson lost to us by 0.01. Hwa Chong was supposed to win us but they did a stupid error which cost them 0.2. Yishun JC was the unexpected one. We did not expect them to win us, attaining third place. Actually one of them dropped his weapon, which cost 0.5 points. However only one judge saw so it was pretty useless. As usual my dear teacher-in-charge for unknown reasons refused to appeal to the central judges. If not we would have gotten third.

Total no. of points for A Boys: 24
Rank: National 4th

Actually throughout the whole competition we were very angry with the school which protrayed itself as corrupted. It wasn't just the belief of Temasek but also other colleges as well. So we kind of staged the walkout.

Ranks for A Boys
1st VJC
2nd MJC
3rd AJC
4th TJC

The various top 4 JCs discussed and we decided to walk out when the award was announced for that school which happened to be right after MJC. Since all the schools have gotten their awards before MJC, when MJC got its award, all of us immediately left. It's pretty obvious which school is corrupted. I wonder how the students think of their coach. Sure they were strong, but they shouldn't have gotten their rank.

All the other JCs were crowding around with each other, declaring that we won without being corrupted. It was kind of funny.

It was really a good experience.

Oops this post is too long.

I will review some other things in my next post.
