Farewell Concert + Star Awards 2007

Today was the last official day of school where we are to report by 7.25. Sure its not the last day which we wear the uniform, but there were a lot of sentimental feelings that go with this special day. Anyhow that's not the bulk of this post. The sentimental part can come later, hopefully with some photos...

The first part of the day was of course morning assembly at the Temasek Square. (Actually its interesting to note that most JC has many venues to names that are amusing or unique such as photocopying shop Zap! and the squash courts are called Leadership Centre, though most special TJ venues are under utilised like Innospace) Most year 2s arent paying attention, not that anyone will care on the last day of school.

Next we went for a talk by Mrs Loke and Mr Tong. Mrs Loke touched on the core values of TJ and the compass points etc etc. I wouldn't be surprised if most people weren't listening. But i noted 2 points from her talk. Firstly she came into TJ at the same time as my batch. So we're her first graduating batch fresh with her. Secondly, i like her most emphasized quote. This quote was by Helen Keller, whom was my most similar character during my secondary school personality report. The quote goes "I am only one, but i am still one. I cannot do everything, but i can still do something. I will not refuse to do that something i can do". I graduated from Xinmin strongly believing in this quote. (then again i have quite forgotten it until Mrs Loke mentioned it today, oops)

Mr Tong's talk was more enriching, i didnt know some of the examination procedure he mentioned such as what if floods occur and we cannot proceed to TJ for examination. The one quote i will surely remember from TJ was given by Mr Tong during 1st Orientation 2006. He was giving a quiz to gain points for the orientation competition and so ask us "which 10 two-lettered words are the most important words in English?" Guess?

If it is to be, it is up to me.

I kinda like this quote. Then he showed us this video http://www.212movie.com/ If you're taking an examination or something, you should watch it. Its quite nice.

Mrs Loke giving her last cohort meeting speech

Next was Civics lesson. Mr Lim KK gave us some encouragement and gifts for those who improved a lot. Then Mrs Beetsma came in to give us our sample SGC and results slip. I shall refrain from commenting on my results though. Then Mrs Beetsma said she'll treat us to a drink. She does that often especially if we did well for examinations as a class (which is like, everytime?)

When we reached the canteen, we saw a black bus driving into the canteen. Here's the fun part. It says Star Search 2007 on the bus, but later Sue Chee told me its Star Awards. Oops, i didnt know any celebrity, but not that i cared. The interesting fact is how TJCians reacted when they saw the bus. They went crazy, first girls, then the guys too, and the manager had to keep telling us to keep quiet and stop taking photos if not they'll have to leave immediately. Now thats some cocky attitude. Like what my friend said, when gals meet their idols, they go wild. Really wild. Its only natural for them to be like that, as much as i would like to declare TJ an institution of distinction but its human nature you know? Anyhow here are some photos.

Guess what? The door of the bus got stuck! They can't come out. TJCians looking at them as if they are in an enclosure...

Basically i couldnt take a shot of the celebrities' faces cause too many people were crowding near the bus. Look carefully at the last photo, when the bus driver opened the windows, TJCians actually put the camera INTO the bus to take some photos. Incredible, this thing call fan power. There was also one guy who sat on another guy's back in the midst of the chaos. I'm sure many people were late for class and the farewell concert.

Then was the farewell concert. It was cool. Not bad. Touching to see Mrs Tag sobbing away. Just don't know if its real or she's having a flu. The maths conditions stuff are cool too. Eg. we were placed under a common denominator (TJC), tutors were there to help us take absolute values of everything passion drive purpose, integrate knowledge and other stuff to get higher powers of them, and a lot of other crazy stuff. Chemistry department were funny too. Physics department mainly put quotes. GP department was quite funny too. Guess what my GP tutor wrote on his slide.

Bye bye.

Infer the author's tone and purpose from the above sentence (or something like that).

Quite funny.

Then there was this video of photos of what my batch did. It was quite nice, though i only appeared once. Not bad already though.

Then another funny part came in. The star awards 2007 people came to interrupt. I had a better idea of how things work in the media industry. First the emcee came in to ensure that we were enthu and spontaneous. She tested us and dared us to cheer loudly. We did the TJ cheer and she was quite impressed. But when the celebrities come in... lol, the volume was on a whole different level.

Soon after, the concert ended. And that's that. Back to mugging. And the emcee's last sentence was "ok thats all JC2s, erm, you guys are dismissed, you all can go study or something." LOL.
