Event: Overseas Trip

A secret for all to know, this is the first time I'm travelling overseas. First time on a plane, first time in a different country. Excited? Well, a little. According to my friends, i was buzzing them with a lot of questions which they deemed unnecessary. But hey i didnt want to look like a fool at the airport you know. Anyways in the end, this trip wasnt a nice a first-time-overseas.

On 6th of October, I went to Changi Airport. I saw my friends and guess what, we were all so excited. Really. First time on the plane was ok. Didnt get as much side effects as they say one might get. The place i went to was really cold and everyone knows i'm freaking scared of cold. Upon touch down, i knew i made a big mistake not bringing my own jacket. I guess i'm going to write this entry with the same style as my friend.

Happenings

Well lots of things happened, cause nothing happened. Its true. I wont say much here. Apart from the usual shit work that i do, i'm pretty much quite slack. And guess what i got onto a helicopter and flew some distance. Its pretty cool i must say.

Once we went for a free spending trip at a office canteen. I ate 8 garlic chicken balls there and then. I was punished by the meat balls for abusing my stomach. I swear I didnt touch garlic for a good few more days.

Another happening that i must mention is how cool some people are. You see, jellys are put in the fridge for people to take during meal times. For someone with power much bigger than my colleagues and I, dont you think that one must have mustered a lot of courage to ask US to help them take a jelly or two?

Temperature

Day by day the temperature got lower and lower. The jacket loaned to us by the organisation didnt help at all. I guess it didnt occur to them that wind breakers arent meant for cold weather like 11 degrees. Cant blame them. Even cuddling with my friends didnt help i swear. One night, i was so cold that i was all over Iven, and it still didnt help at all. It sounds so wrong but i was so desperate to get any bit of warmth.

On some nights, i was so cold that i draped myself in layers of shirt and just stoned at one side, watching my friends work. I feel bad but my efficiency just dipped all the way to negative 120% that i couldnt even move at all. Many say a trip to a place with such temperature is an experience. I say that a trip to a place with the organisation providing no suitable equipment is attempted murder. You'll be surprised, they almost succeeded.

People

These are the many people who made an impact in my life during this 23 days of "experience". Few made good, most were bad.

First is Mr Maintainance. I appreciate people who treats other human beings like human beings though they rank much higher. This is the first time someone like that spoke to me like i was his equal. For this i thank him to show me that not everyone of his kind is a jerk. Its a pity that I didnt get a photo with Mr Maintainance, it will be good to remember him by.

Second is Mr Boss. I never really spoke to him on a personal level before. This is the first time that he gave an opinion about the organisation he works for and i am (not) shocked to know that he dont see all the goodness in this great organisation we're all in now. Perhaps he could sense that i was down about the fact that i achieved nothing thus far in the organisation and tried to cheer me up by recommanding me for the Award of Commendation. This i thank him. Though regretfully i say that I do not deserve it. I always tell him that my colleagues work much harder than me (even though for some its because they are forced to). Nonetheless after I was presented the award, he congratuated me and told me to remember what he told me about achieving. Much as i want to remember, blood spilled so long ago cant just be removed. There will still be stains, unfortunately. But i'm still glad that my boss is Mr Boss, cant complain.

Third is Mr Clever. Like my friend mentioned, he does magic. He has an inate ability to get things done just by using his mouth. And its always done using the same way (or rather, people). But i must say he should have sensed rebellious feelings amongst his good ways. I'm glad that wiped his (f)ugly smile off his face. Maybe if he read a few more books like his good ways do, rather than condem reading books, he might actually have a slight chance of living up to his name.

Fourth is Mr Big. Now, he has quite the personality and style. He's big, his attitude is big and his authority is big, that is, he thinks so. I would be very glad if someone so closely related to me have a bit more logic and EQ but life doesnt give you everything. But ya know, he's caring too. I remember a time when i wasnt feeling too ok, moody mayhaps. He showed his concern. He asked once, twice, thrice, 4 times. You've got to admit that it takes one much talent to be so annoying. If only he can assume less, my friends wouldnt be stuck in mud (literally so), i wouldnt have to be annoyed (again) even after i felt better ["you have done well ah, keep it up" grrr. stop ringing that into my ears, its so annoying and dont assume that its related to my problems], and he would be able to accomplish greater things. Good job Mr Big, not that we didnt expect all these. Just a little less assumption would make a lot of difference and your efforts will start paying off, I promised as much myself.

Last but not least is Mr Major. He doesnt know that stealing is wrong, or mayhaps he doesnt know that "taking things that doesnt belong to him" means stealing, or mayhaps both. I think its both. Until now, i wondered why you came to talk to me after i recieved my award. Very intriguing (suspicious). You see, i know my inherent workload is not much, thats why i always try to help as much as possible. So there was this occasion when i was about to approach my colleagues to help them, Mr Major stopped me and told me that i've got to go help them since i am "sooooo slack" (i was like 'yes in case you didnt notice despite being our direct superior for so long, i always try to help'). I am so impressed that just because someone complained to you that the logistics branch is not as hardworked as the rest, you can just come straight to me and shoot it at me when you give me so much work back in Singapore. I was awed at how direct and how all rounded you were. Thus this brings me back to the talk after i got my award. Whatever you said dont tally with the day when you told me i was slack. Seriously, you got it all wrong. As in, the logic part, cause it doesnt make any sense to me, and its upsetting to know that one day i wasnt appreciated and the other day i was appreciated cause i was given an award by the higher ups. You do your job systematically, i give you that. And this is seriously not the first time that you are double sided.

Your soul searching trip was fruitful i much as expect. Mayhaps your name be changed to Mr Thick Skin might as well. You may sound cool saying some calm stuff in times of trouble, but dont turn your back on us once your nose is back in the air. One piece of advice from a lowly being such as me, you arent a major. Simple as that.

Complaints

A mug is but a mug. It is used to drink liquids meant drinkable. Drinks are provided with meals but drinks arent compulsory, so i see no need for my mug to be brought to the meal table when i have no intention of drinking anything. Marvelous i say, to be forced to bring a stupid empty mug to meals.

I'm very afraid of cold. The location doesnt start warming up until 8am. I wear a jacket cause i feel cold. It makes perfert sense that I will take off my jacket when i feel warmer. Do I look stupid or what? It doesnt make any sense to ask me to take off my jacket saying "its hot" just because i'm the only person in jacket. I'll sue for attempted murder i swear.

My organisation at one point, told us that jackets and the likes cannot be worn after 6am. Shocked. I was so shocked that my jaws dropped. 6am in the morning i am still breathing cold mist out of my mouth and they want me to take off my jacket. Its once again attempted murder. I must admit that I failed to obey such a regulation, there's a reason why I'm alive to blog this now.

Once upon a time, the great king all hail was to come and visit us. We were summoned from our meals and feeling the urgency, we abandoned our food. As we wait for the arrvival of His Majesty, one of my superior finds there be enough time for meals to be consumed by all those yet have eaten. My colleagues and I pointed out that we had half a meal, and bluntly we were called "cocks" to have thrown our food away. Amazement this organisation brings.

Achievements

1) did not bathe for 9 days straight.
2) only used 2 sets of clothes for 21 days
3) read a book
4) ate 8x garlic chicken balls at one go
5) survived the cold

This trip brings truly an experience no where else can give, i much agree. But you know. I am so surprised that i didnt die from the cold. The 23 days which felt like months (and the 8 garlic chicken balls), almost killed me too. This one hell of an experience is overated.

Senseless Stuff: Which Final Fantasy Character Are You?

Final Fantasy Character Test

Which Final Fantasy Character Are You?

Final Fantasy VII

Event: Desperate Attempts of Sounding Artsy

Chi Weng: This Sunday i gonna bring my duffel bag right home, next to you babes
and we can open it together
to reveal the unwashed stuff hidden and packed away inside

Me: Goodness, a route march there might be, still wash them you must

Him: And that i would do the moment i step into hell

Me: hell offers naught free for you to wash your stuff
pay them you will have to, dollars it will be
wash them yourself? no chance i say

Him: a dollar for the cleans, a bag left unpacked
if it t'were to open now, hell would break loose
imps and daemons of shades and sizes
where then to open hell,
if not within hell itself?

Me: tis hell different from that
the opening of the first would spare most from hell such as thyself

Him: lo! for suicide would answer not world's woes
if then i should die when hell first opened
then would i die of earth
but if there be me a presence in hell
and there be hell opened, hell
death would not stop me
from serving the damned

Me: truth your words might hold
if tis hell opened in that
evil unleashed banish us all
the cruelty of all things are as worse as can be already
selfless you must be!

Him: selfless not in such circumstances permit
for tis not selflessness that would save us all
but fuel solid
devoid of liquids or gas
that of a solid death
we cast unto his office
and who? you might inquire
he, i say
born of brimstone, malice and shortness
of ugliness, baldness and an aging atrocity
cast then our fuel solid into his office
and turn his paper into coal
and office into oven
burnt his office, position and rank
hierachial hypocrite...

Me: you speak far from tis hell we speak
hell itself still be
hell itself possess no fuel solid
hell itself burn deaths unto us not him

Thought of the Month: Striving As Hard As I Can

When I do things, i usually want to put in effort into them, whatever they may be. Heckcaring is just not me.

When people around you take on tough job, some may find it fine to watch, others may not. I belong to the latter group.

But sometimes life just dont allow you to do by your instincts and nature. Then the worst thing is that people around you dont understand.

And the ringing in my ear still hurts...

Movie: Connected

Its been a long time since i watched a movie. Today i was once again (a bit) late for the appointment. To my surprise, Edwin said he'll be a bit late too. Lol. In the end he still reached earlier than me and purchased the ticket in time. The movie was not bad i guess but there's not much to say about it. The fighting and storyline could be a little more real though.

Alright, i'll be going away for 23 days or so. Bon voyage to myself.

Food: Botak Jones!

Before i yap on my food, i must make a statement. These few days, once again, (people in) my surroundings have impressed me yet again. I have no idea how they do it. Maybe they keep leveling up or something. And i realised (actually i already did long ago) that even lower life forms can be disgustingly annoying and useless. Gosh i cant get reminded enough of this.

Oh well. After i've been shaved bald by the higher ups, my friends suggested that we go to Botak Jones to eat. How suitable is that. Its pretty expensive, but nonetheless nice. Check out my fish and chips and the WhoopAss Fries. Its totally cool. Then again, i think Carl's Jr's beef chilli cheese fries is nicer, except that it has a much smaller helping.

After dinner, we went to starbucks for my favourite Green Tea Frap. 2 days countdown to overseas training. Gotta eat all the good stuff.

Fish and Chips

Ribeye Steak, not bad i'll say

Whoopass Fries, now you see it...

now you dont...

Ramblings: People and Places Around Me

Love it.

Love it love it love it love it love it love it love it love it love it.

I bet not many people get to live around an environment where everyone's so stupid, useless and crappy that you feel so much more superior to these low-level-beings. Well waddya know, i get to. Be jealous you common mortals.

Then again, i dont have much of a say in the places i go to, you know. I guess they're right about life being a give and take. And oh, sometimes they impress me so much that one've got to think that it takes talents to be, erm, useless.

I'll spare you guys the details, lest you mortals feel more awed of being in this mind stimulating foolishness and start drooling.

Oh by the way, i'm going overseas soon, from 6th Oct to 29th Oct. Most likely i will be totally uncontactable during this time. Pray i come back safely. Maybe even kangaroos and wallabies will go crazy and start attacking people sensing that they are amongst kings of fools.

Event: Promotion

2 weeks ago, the company held a promotion parade. The higher ups said that we should feel proud to be promoted to Lance Corporal and the parade is to show appreciation and acknowledgement for the efforts of those promoted. I wasnt part of the parade cause i wasnt promoted at first. It was at the parade when my superior mentioned a couple of names whom he just sent to the manpower side to be promoted as well, and my name was amongst them.

I'm so excited about this! I'm going to be promoted soon and i will too enjoy this parade of appreciation and recognition. I am so proud to be a Lance Corporal sia. LOL.

Did i mention that my eyeballs almost dropped out that day? Rolled them a tad too much.

Event: First Book In After Stay Out Course

The feeling totally sucks. What else can i say? I went berserk on the day i booked in and i kept hitting my erm, bed with my erm, pants. Lol.

Sigh...

Emo: Being Single

Recently there has been a lot of talk with my driving course platoon mates about, well, being attached. I dont think im good looking, but when i hear that extremely erm, you know, kind of people have girlfriends, i can get kind of frustrated. The "i want to bang my head against the wall cause i'm so pathetic for such a guy to have a stead yet i dont have" kind of frustration. I dont really crave to be attached though. I mean, there's a lot of good things about being single. Or so they say. But whenever i shop alone in town, the lonliness creeps up on me. And i do feel quite upset when i see a couple.

Oh well.

Emo Event: End of Course

And so today marks the end of my driving course. Its a happy day, that is if i had kept to my mentality at the start of the course. At first, i really hated driving, really hated being scolded by my instructor all the time, hated having to pay all the transportation fees and having to sleep early though i'm at home cause there's driving the next day. I wont say i appreciate stay out more now than previously, or that i love driving now. But i didnt expected myself to make many new friends and to dread going back to unit so much.

Ashley whom i bade farewell after my BMT, Keroy, a fellow signaller, Jeremy, Luke and Alan my group members. These are just a few whom i'll really miss. [The fact that Luke and Alan shares my height (not common) and Jeremy being much taller than us causes the shorter ones to get teased by the instructor all the time.] The sad thing is, most likely i wont meet them again, simply because most likely our paths will cross no more. The sadder thing is, Kay Siong offered me a ride back on his dad's car and i agreed. I didnt even say a proper goodbye to my friends. Maybe i'm dwelling on this so much this time cause i'm not good at making friends all along.

Its nice getting together with my BMT platoon mate, its nice knowing another fellow signaller, its nice to be in group 6 where the members are 3 not so tall guys and 1 quite tall guy. Its nice to know so many people from different units. Guys, dont hesitate to call me when you want to hor. And to the future-passes, you guys will pass soon, you and i know it, cause "Never Say Die, JEEP!"

We ended off with all the superiors giving their final words as their debrief. Dont speed, switch on head lights, comply with traffic rules... We said the driver's pledge one more time. I actually felt sad. We fell out with a loud shout of JEEP! As i walked out, i couldnt see my driving friends, as they got covered by the flood of people booking out. And finally, i managed to talk to some of them, then the car came and i hopped onto it. Looking back, the regret was heavy, even if i had shouted one last goodbye. And hence forth, we shall be course mates no longer. But you will be missed. Dearly.

For once i hope i'm wrong, and we will meet again.

Event: Island Wide Confidence Driving

154km. 300mins of driving. A skilled driver like myself.

This aptly sums up my activities today. Maybe except for the skilled driver part.

This is the end of the 3rd week of my driving course. I havnt blogged about it at all until now cause i'm always too tired by the time i reach back home. The most i blogged were short little posts. Anyways learning to drive in a military institution is extremely different from civilian i believe. I shant elaborate at this point of my entry but anyhow, i've already passed everything. Highway code theory test, highway situational theory test, parking test and the actual driving test, i've passed all of them in one try. How much better (luckier) a driver can i be?

From this course, i've learnt that Singaporeans are extremely atrociously horribly lousy and reckless and inconsiderate road users. Be it pedestrians or drivers, they all make me dread driving so much all the time, even now that i've gotten my license.

Trucks and sports cars cutting into your lane without signalling at high speed, taxis suddenly lane-changing into your lane and stop right in front of you without warning, drivers who refuse to give way to let me lane change, drivers who horned me just because i'm a little slow in making a right turn, drivers who refused to give way to major road vehicles and insist on barging out to their exit, pedestrians who are sotong-ish blur and cross the road without realising that a wobbly L-plate driver is making a right turn, jay walkers who dash across the road thinking that the stupid military jeep wont go any faster. I had my fair share of near accidents and i am glad that im still alive to tell my story. But i'll bet that i wont be driving much even after i get my civilian license. At least not with a manual vehicle.

Now, i wont say im a confident driver, neither am i a good driver. But i guess i can make it from one point to another in one piece. I just proved myself today that i can make it on the expressway. drive 154km in 300mins and not doze off. Not bad. 50km more to end my island wide confidence driving.

Article: ST Urban - Budget Debate

I saw this article long ago, dated 29 August but only decided to blog the article now cause i think i'm going to lose it very soon. Its good to have some record i can refer back to. Its about "how to look good without burning a hole in your pocket". I'll just type out some parts which i think i may use next time.

Top tips:
- shop online to get cheaper deals eg. www.myvintage.co.uk and www.erasoul.com

Items: Moringa Shower Gel

The Body Shop is having 40% discount off shower gels again so i decided that i should buy this time. I've gotten the Moringa one and the Olive one. And gosh, do i love the smell of Moringa shower gel. It says "delicately floral soap-free cleansing, with moisturising moringa leaf extract and Community Trade organic honey". Its the honey that makes me go high.

Video: So Cute!

Aint this 2 cute little kids cute? Lol.

Thought of the Day: Woes of a Photographer

We dont get into the picture, and we cant ask to get into the picture.

I love taking photos. Scenery, gatherings, happenings, cam whoring...

But apart from cam whoring, i dont really see myself in my 2GB worth of photos, whether taken by myself or other people in the events that happened in the 19 years of my life thus far.

Thought of the Day: Boot Licking Bitches

Pardon me for being crude here, but what other more descriptive words can i use?

But yeah, dont you just hate them? Especially when they are doing it so shamelessly.

Food: Gelare

Half price waffles rock. Even though i had a bad stomach ache after my Army Half Marathon training, i still ate it without hesitation after one bite. I shared a 3 scoop waffle with Chi Weng Wesley and Zhong Hao. We had some apple yogurt thingy, some chocolate chip thingy and honey malt. The yogurt had a weird taste (still nice nonetheless) and the chocolate chip thingy and honey malt totally rocks. The waffle is so nice and warm too.

Gosh, more stomach ache after that.

Event: Army Half Marathon Training 3

Yesterday was my 4th and final AHM training. We ran 10km again but this time the weather was cold. I say again, COLD. I dont like to run in hot weather, nobody would. But results do say something. Every single one of our timing dropped by quite a bit. Personally my timing dropped by 5 mins but i have no idea whether its because i off-form or what. Cause my position dropped quite a lot too. From platoon 2nd, my position dropped to 4th, and somemore its because Shang Long wasnt around. My company position also dropped to 11th excluding the commanders. I lost to a few people from other platoons whom i have never lost to before. Sian. I also lost my fighting spirit. I didnt really want to chiong and win those who overtook me. But oh well, I guess its ok. At least I'm still platoon top 5 (though i guess See Kiat is quite right that we'll always be platoon top 5, but thats because a few people dont put in effort). The next run will be on Sunday, thats the real thing. See ya there.

Thought of the Day: Dreams

Dreams so such intriguing happenings. They speak of what are your inner desires. It just happened twice for me.

Yet, it is not just a dream. Its fulfills the other meaning of a dream. I dream of being a commander. The dream mind was so far-fetched, and the dream in my heart is so far away. The dream showed me how i was ridiculed by reality. Torn from my dream, i can only dream. And remember the pain i experienced. And thats only one of the 2 dreams.

Sheesh... Dreams...

Event: Army Half Marathon Training 2

Once again I got to run in East Coast Park. Despite tiring training last week and the days before the run, I managed to get a pretty good timing.

East Coast Park
Distance: 7km
Weather: Cooling
Timing: around 35mins (5mins/km)
Coy Position (Support/HQ): Third
Platoon Position: Third (some commanders: why signal so damn fast ah?)

Mandai Hill Camp/Lorong Asrama
Distance: 8km
Weather: Cooling
Timing: 41.54mins (around 5.25mins/km)
Coy Position (Support): 11th
Platoon Position: Third

East Coast Park
Distance: 10km
Weather: Hot
Timing: 50mins flat (5mins/km)
Coy Position (Support): 16th (including Commanders who ran 14km but started 20mins earlier)
Platoon Position: Second

My poor friends either didnt feel like running or were off form that day, cause it was hot afterall. Despite having aching knees and ankles 20mins into the run, i managed to get a pretty good timing for such a long run. According to my previous timing, i was starting to take 7mins/km after running more than 7km. But i managed to reduce that to 5mins/km again. Not bad. There were some 6 commanders before me. So i guess i should be about 10th in the company. And i overtook pretty much a lot of commanders on my way back.

On a side note, after the run, we were given nights out. We went to Carl's Junior with our commanders. I ordered Double Western Bacon Cheeseburger combo, upsize to large plus one Beef Chilli Cheese Fries. I also drank 2 large ice lemon tea and 1 tall Green Tea Frap from Starbucks. The result was disastrous, making me on the verge of vomit from East Coast all the way back to Mandai Hill. And the worst was the feeling didnt stop until 2 days later. Disastrous indeed. (and many of my platoon mates almost puked during our journey back too)

Event: Signal Gathering

On friday after book out, some of the us from platoon 11/07 went to a gathering at Fish and Co @ The Glass House. It was actually supposed to be a farewell gathering for Yen Shan who will be going to Brunei for 1 year in 2 weeks time. We also wanted to catch up with our dear sexy auntie-killer ang mo friend Robert. After a good chat at Fish and Co with 12 people, we left and went to Secret Recipe at Plaza Singapura though Chi Weng and Shaun Lim and Shaun Yap had to go. After we had our pies and cakes at Secret Recipe, the bikers went home to prepare for guard duty and Iven and Shang Long went off too. The rest of us decided to go play pool somewhere.

I forgot to take a photo of the New York Fish and Chips! Argh. And i only remember to take a photo of my Choz Cheese only after i've eaten more than half of it.

Event: 1SIR 52nd Anniversary Celebration

On thursday night, the First Battalion had its anniversary celebration. I really didnt think that an army battalion's celebration would be like this, neither had i predicted that i would actually stand on the bench to get a clearer view (since i sit all the way at the back). But you know, at least i didnt chiong all the way to the front of the stage (like some people did) to see what they really wanted to. Well a hint was that during particular performance, the song played was "we're bringing sexyback... YEAH!".

There were games involving each company to bring out their best men (such as tallest, fattest, biggest butt, but Support Coy obviously lost because we're too fit and the emcee had a cork in his eye to not see that the signal platoon sergeant is obviously the most muscular guy in the battalion), there were songs (pretty bad ones at that, coupled with, erm, a few warm layers of skin), there were BBQ food (i ate 1x hotdog, 1x satay and 3x 1cm by 5cm otah), there was lucky draw, and there was "we're bringing sexyback... YEAH!" which was the only thing which made me stand on the bench for so long (it made me realised that i was quite thin actually too). It was more fun than i expected. Especially when Support was singing Apologise, when they asked for the hairest man and i was pulling Iven to go up on stage, when we were looking at young innocent and unwilling boys being, erm, brought sexyback to... In the end, HQ Coy won the competition. Like, wow. Support wasnt bad at all though. We won the "dunnoe what" skills competition held in the morning and the Safety Notice Board competition.

Thought of the Day: Some People Are Born...

My buddy says i'll burn in hell for saying this. Nonetheless, he has but got to agree with it.

I dont like to mention names. But you know... (here goes..)

Some people are born retarded. They work so hard to transit from being retarded to being f-ed up. Oops pardon my language. But i cant find a more apt word to describe it. Anyhow, they suffered so much to make so much more improvement. Com'on people. You have to agree with me that they should be sympathised with, not hated. You agree, yes?

Then some people are not born retarded. But they work so hard to act like the f-ed up self they are. You know, it sometimes takes courage to be yourself. I mean, not everyone's born to be near perfect. Being ourselves can be difficult. These people should be praised, no? What i'm trying to say is, they even dare to make themselves LOOK retarded. This act surely deserves some credit.

Then some people are born retarded, and they stay retarded. We cant just assume that its because they refuse to learn, aint i right? They should be encouraged, not looked down upon or criticised, even if they look retarded, act like they are retarded, look f-ed up, or look like they act like they are f-ed up.

You get my drift?
